Boy Scout makes history by earning 129 merit badges

A Grove City Boy Scout has earned every merit badge currently available through the Boy Scouts of America. Teddy Osborn, who just turned 18 on March 23, has a total badge count of 129. Earning that number of merit badges has not been achieved by any other Scout in Ohio's 100-year scouting history, according to Drew McCartt, BSA Buckeye District vice chairman and assistant scoutmaster of Troop 200. McCartt said Osborn has always wanted to earn every badge. "His goal ever since he entered Scouts was this," he said. Less than two-tenths of 1 percent of all Boy Scouts annually earn more than 100 merit badges, according to BSA. Osborn has been a Scout for about 11 years, joining the organization in first grade as a Tiger Cub. His goal has been a moving target throughout the years. "They kept on adding merit badges over the past two years," McCartt said.
